For my birthday, my boyfriend and I received a spa break package from his parents. This package includes a whole day at the spa and a 55 minute treatment of our choice, an evening meal, a night stay at the hotel and breakfast the next morning.
now our birthdays were both in April, but due to it being difficult to book time off work and my boyfriend being terrible at getting round to booking the 2 days, we didn’t end up going to the spa until late august. I’ve actually just come back from the day away as I’m writing this now.
The treatment i chose was the Temple Spa go figure massage, which is aimed at the thighs, hips and tummy, and tries to work away cellulite. I chose this because although I’m not fat, my thighs are quite large and have a lot of stubborn cellulite. My boyfriend chose the Temple Spa work it out massage. This massage works the whole body and really works out all the muscles and relieves stress and undoes knots.
The front of the hotel is a good representation of the rest of the hotel and the spa, and the standards of the staff. This hotel is a luxury resort, atlas in my eyes. I was slightly overwhelmed upon first seeing the hotel as I’m not fancy or posh in any way possible and this hotel is far more luxurious than anything i’ve ever been to before.
We arrived at 9am and although we couldn’t check into our room until 3, the hotel has a room where you can hold your bags until checking in time. This was useful as the car park is so big and having to walk back to the car at 3 would just be a pain in the backside.
After dropping our bags off at reception, we headed up to the spa and after filling out a mandatory form (to get to know whether you have any medical conditions, allergies, or skin conditions that would prevent certain treatments and you being able to use other facilities), we were handed a bag with a robe, towel, and slides. My boyfriend and I headed to the changing rooms to change into our swim clothes and robes.
The only downside so far was that the robes and slides are all the same size, so although my slides fit well, the gown was a bit large on me, and my poor boyfriend looked like a giant wearing his as they were just so small on him.
Now i’ve been told by my boyfriend that the mens changing room wasn’t nearly as nice as the ladies, but the ladies changing room was VERY lovely. There was a room of lockers, that lead into this room with 3 vanity tables, and those amazing leather seats. This section of the changing room overlooked the swimming pool which I loved. The Changing room also has toilets and showers in their own rooms.
After changing, we went on a tour of the spa, which consisted of many quiet rooms, one of which you were allowed to eat cake in which was a huge yes for me, a private sauna, a manicure station, therapy treatment rooms, and then down to the pool. Besides the pool was another, non private sauna, a jacuzzi, and a steam room.
We started off our spa experience by hopping between the jacuzzi, pool, sauna, and steam room for a few hours, before heading upstairs to chill in the quiet rooms. One of the quiet rooms consists of water beds, which is the first one we tried out. I personally loved this chill time and spending the whole day not having to do anything apart from relax, though my boyfriend was a bit restless, and was wanting to move about a bit more.
On the day that we were there, the spa lunch was a buffet from 12-2, which is what we were waiting on past 11ish. Once 12 rolled around we headed back to the spa reception/shop/Chai cafe and dived into the buffet. It was made up on a few different things, such as parsnip soup, giant couscous with pesto & veg, broccoli & cheese tart, Grilled chicken, & cucumber and watermelon salad. although none of these things were something I would usually eat, each of them were delicious and so much more filling than i expected. I piled my plate highs i was expecting to still be hungry, yet i ended up not quite finishing all of it instead.
After lunch we headed downstairs to get a bit of fresh air, and we watched some of the men play golf. It was really lovely to sit outside and look at the view across the golf course. My boyfriend really enjoyed this as he is an avid golfer. I think the next time we go to The Vale Resort, He will book a golfing day instead of the spa day. As much as he enjoys relaxing, a whole day of it was just a bit too boring for him.
After a quick walk around the grounds, we headed back to the spa and had round 2 in the sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, and my second swimming lesson of the day. I was surrounded my little kids learning to swim with their parents, and they were doing a much better job than me. As a kid I never went to swimming pools or anything so i’ve never learned. Me now being 21 makes it more difficult as I know that if I don’t swim, I’ll drown, but also because I’m so embarrassed that I’m 21 and can’t swim and I’m squealing when I move even slightly. I can’t wait for the day I can say that I went swimming, and actually swam.
After swimming, we went to chill in the quietest and darkest room in the spa before my massage at 3. This room’s probably my favourite as it was just a room full of beds.
At 3 I went for my massage where my therapist brushed my skin, applied oil, and mud before wrapping me in plastic wrapping and then moved onto a head massage as the mud did its work. She unwrapped me and wiped away the mud, then applied a very cold gel to finish off. That was the end of my treatment and i went to get changed and finally head to my hotel room. I wanted to get a picture it but i couldn’t as my boyfriend had already checked in, thrown clothes across the floor in an effort to find gym clothes, been to the gym and back and was about to get in the shower, so it wasn’t exactly picturesque when i arrived. I do though have a picture of our lovely little balcony.
We relaxed in the room for an hour before heading back to the spa for my boyfriends treatment and for me to finally be able to look around the spa shop and pick up a few products. I picked up the Sundari honey and enzyme exfoliating serum which is supposed to be good for brightening and evening out skin, and I’m always on the look out for anything that can help my acne scars, plus it was half price (still £24). I also picked up a few things from the nail varnish brand Jessica. I grabbed the reward base coat and the brilliance high gloss top coat, plus custom nail colours in glitterati, & black ice, and finally the hologram top coat in gold. I haven’t tried the polish yet, and I’d like to do a First impressions blog post on them when I do, but I did try the Sundari serum last night and although It’s only one nights opinion, my skin looks brighter this morning and feels super soft and smooth.
After spending too much on not very much, I headed back to the hotel room to get ready for dinner. I had an hour and a half to get ready and managed to wash my face and apply makeup and not much else. We headed to the restaurant for 7 and had a lovely 3 course meal. I had chicken and black pudding salad for starter, as did My OH, duck for main, though Ryan had steak and it looked amazing, and we both had sticky toffee pudding for desert. Every part of that meal was amazing. My duck main was beautiful, the mashed potato was so smooth and buttery and It was possibly the best mashed potato i’ve ever eaten (even better than my one true love, the mashed potato from nando’s), and the giant chip I stole from Ryan’s plate was as equally amazing, and when I say giant I mean it was the size of a mini roll. It was so tasty and the right amount of crisp for me, but was so soft and fluffy on the inside. Overall food was beautiful and I’m extremely sad that I won’t be eating it every day for the rest of my life.
After dinner we had a quick walk along the patio to look at the sun setting.
We then headed back to the hotel where we watched Alien resurrection before going to sleep.
The next morning we awoke at 9ish and after a quick shower we headed down to breakfast. The breakfast set up is a buffet which I always prefer. They had a lovely selection of food, including the usual full english, fruit, cereal and toast, but also had cheeses and meats such as chorizo (which i had both of), pastry, and mustard, which I thought was a strange sauce to have with breakfast but I’m not gonna argue with it. It didn’t take either of us long to devour what was probably far too much for us to eat, before slowly walking (or waddling in my case) back to our room and getting ready to make the long 20 minute journey home.
Overall, I really thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Vale Resort and will definitely be recommending it and staying there again. It was a lovely relaxing day and I learned that I definitely need more spa treatments in my life, and I’m so happy that I got to spend such a lovely day with my boyfriend. If you or anyone you know needs a good relax, it’s a great place to stay and although it’s not somewhere I could afford to go to often, it’s not crazy expensive there, and you definitely get what you pay for. Also if you know someone who likes to be doing something instead of just lounging around then having the golf course is a great way to spend the day, and all of the people I saw playing looked like they were having a great time, I even enjoyed watching it.
Thank you & I hope you liked my little review and seeing how I spent my day.
Please let me know if you would like me to do more of these types of blogs or if I should stick to reviews.
P.S. I know that I didn’t post on my blog last week but I’m posting twice this week to make up for it, so technically I failed my august goal, but technically I still posted enough. I’m hoping to make a blogging schedule and post on the same day each week, though I haven’t decided the day yet! let me know your thoughts.
P.P.S. I know this blog post was longer than my usual, I’m writing blogs on my new laptop now so its easier to write a lot. let me know if it was too boring and i’ll try and improve.
Thanks for reading, Em x
